ABOUT ME

Hello and welcome to my world! I created rachyljones.com in 2018 to show my writing pieces, whether from jobs, former classes, or fun. I love photography, graphic design, and video editing, so you can count on a large visual aspect to this site as well.

I graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in English. One year later, I earned my master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. Since then, I’ve worked as a media reporter for the Observer and currently hold a fellowship position at Fortune covering tech.

I grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, and as much as I loved it, I call New York my home now. I’d like to live all over the world, learning as much as I can about culture, language, religion, food, fashion, and art.

My personality test tells me I am ENFJ—extroverted, intuitive, feeling, judging. This means I’m not afraid to take charge of a group. I am independent and I always finish the tasks that I start. I have an affinity for organizing, planning, and especially for color-coding. I prefer phone calls to texts, and I can say the alphabet backwards. I feel deeply for my friends and family, and I am constantly working to improve myself. The Myers Briggs test calls this personality type the “protagonist”—ironic considering my favorite genre to write is first-person narrative. Some other ENFJs are Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey.

Some things you might not know about me:

  1. I studied abroad in Rome, Italy
  2. I was the president of my sorority
  3. I skydived in Switzerland

Writing is important to me because of the way words make me feel.  I read books like Wuthering Heights and The Things They Carried, having to put them down for a moment to appreciate the author’s next-level connection with words. My goal is to make someone feel that way through my writing—for someone to pause and say “wow” like I have done countless times. I’d love to hear what you have to say about my writing, so feel free to reach out.  I hope you enjoy reading!
