to my mother

you are autumn colors with the spring bloom

summer joy with the winter beauty

you move mountains and settle storms,

as strong as an earthquake and as gentle as a rose

you change like the phases of the moon but shine

when I look for you on cloudy days

you are a vacation on the beaches of mexico

and a thrilling hike on a burning volcano

you are an endless cave full of stories and history

with just as many diamonds as rocks

you are the one light post in the darkness

amidst the street of broken lamps

you are peace in the war and the

dandelions that I wish on

you are sunrise to sunset

and everything in between

you are the speechlessness of natural beauty

the north star guiding me home
